Privacy Policy

Last updated 25 May 2026

Offbit is built around a simple promise: we collect the minimum we need to make the product work, we don't sell your data, and we don't share it with advertisers. This page explains exactly what we collect, why, and how to delete it.

Who we are

Offbit is operated by the team behind off-bit.com. If you have any questions about this policy, email team@off-bit.com.

What we collect

Account information

When you sign up we store your email address, a display name, a username, and an encrypted password hash. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we store the provider's stable user identifier so we can recognise you on return visits.

Screen-time and app usage

The Offbit mobile app reads your daily screen time and the time you spend in individual apps from the operating system's screen-time / usage-stats APIs. We use this data to:

  • Show your standings on group leaderboards.
  • Detect when you cross a challenge's daily limit.
  • Calculate the "time saved" milestone on your profile.

Per-app usage data is stored as anonymised bundle identifiers (for example com.whatsapp) and the number of seconds you spent in each one. We do not collect the contents of any app, your messages, your browsing history, or any in-app behaviour beyond the time totals the operating system exposes.

Group membership

When you create or join a group we store the group name, the invite code, the list of members, and any active challenges. Other members of a group you join can see your display name and your daily/weekly screen-time totals — that's the whole point of the leaderboard.

Devices and push tokens

To deliver notifications we store the Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) token issued by your device. This token does not identify you personally; it lets our servers send a message to a specific install of the app.

Purchase records

If you subscribe to Offbit Pro through your device's app store, we store the purchase token, the product identifier, the subscription status returned by the store's developer API, and the expiry date. We use this strictly to grant or revoke Pro access. We never receive or store your card details.

Waitlist email

If you sign up via the waitlist form on this site, we store only your email address and the date you joined. We use it once — to email you when the app launches — and then offer a one-click unsubscribe.

Server logs

Our API server keeps short-lived logs of request paths, response codes, and rough timing information for debugging. These logs do not include screen-time data or message content, and they roll over within a few days.

What we don't collect

  • The contents of your messages, photos, or any app.
  • Your real-time location.
  • Your contacts list.
  • Any identifier we sell, share, or trade with advertisers.

How we use it

Strictly to operate Offbit: authenticate you, render your leaderboards, deliver push notifications, verify your subscription, and respond to support requests. We do not use any of the above data for advertising or for training third-party machine-learning models.

Who we share it with

Limited to the infrastructure providers we need to run the service:

  • Render hosts the API server and database.
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) delivers push notifications.
  • App Store and Google Play Billing process subscription payments. Apple Sign-In and Google Sign-In handle authentication if you choose them.
  • Resend sends password-reset and waitlist emails.

We never sell your data, and we don't share it with anyone outside this list.

How long we keep it

Account data is kept for as long as your account is active. Daily screen-time records are kept indefinitely so your lifetime-saved total stays accurate. Server logs roll over within seven days. Waitlist emails are deleted once you unsubscribe or six months after launch, whichever is sooner.

Your rights

You can request a copy of your data, ask us to correct anything inaccurate, or delete your account entirely. Email team@off-bit.com and we'll respond within 30 days. Deleting your account removes your account row, your screen-time history, your group memberships, your push tokens, and your purchase records. Backups roll over within 30 days of deletion.

Children

Offbit isn't designed for under-13s and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you think a child has signed up, email us at the address above and we'll remove the account.

Changes to this policy

We'll update the "Last updated" date above whenever this page changes. If we make a material change we'll surface a notice in the app the next time you open it.
